Luxor Hot Air Balloon from Hurghada: Prices, Itinerary and Tips (2026)

Dozens of balloons rising silently above the Nile, the sun coming up behind the Theban hills, the Valley of the Kings and the temples emerging from the shadows below you: a Luxor hot air balloon flight is one of the most beautiful memories you can bring home from Egypt. Even if you are staying on the Red Sea coast, you can easily do it from Hurghada. Here are the options, the itinerary, the 2026 prices and our tips to prepare for your flight.

Can you do the Luxor hot air balloon from Hurghada?

Yes, but not on a same-day return trip from Hurghada. The balloons take off at sunrise and hotel pick-up is around 4:00 to 4:30 am, long before day trips from the Red Sea arrive in Luxor. So you need to spend a night in Luxor. You have two options: our 2-day trip from Hurghada, which includes the flight, or the flight alone if you are already in Luxor (on a Nile cruise or staying in town).

The 2-day itinerary

  1. Day 1, Hurghada to Luxor: early departure from your hotel and drive to Luxor. Guided visit of Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank, lunch, then a boat ride on the Nile. Drop-off at the hotel of your choice in Luxor.
  2. Day 2, at dawn: pick-up from your hotel for the sunrise hot air balloon flight over the West Bank.
  3. Day 2, West Bank: visit the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatshepsut, lunch, then return to Hurghada.

How does the balloon flight work?

  1. Around 4:00 to 4:30 am: pick-up from your hotel in Luxor and a short boat crossing to the West Bank.
  2. Inflation: watch the balloons being inflated, then board with your pilot.
  3. About 45 minutes in the air over the Valley of the Kings, temples, villages and green fields as the sun rises.
  4. Landing: a toast to celebrate the flight, then transfer back to your hotel.

What can you see from the balloon?

The balloons fly over Luxor’s West Bank, the ancient Thebes of the pharaohs. From above, the contrast is striking: on one side the green strip of farmland along the Nile, on the other the desert and the Theban mountain. You can spot the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s terraced temple set against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari, the Colossi of Memnon standing in the fields, mud-brick villages and, in the distance, the Nile and the city of Luxor on the East Bank. The exact route depends on the wind each morning.

What if the weather stops the flight?

Hot air balloon flights depend on the weather, especially the wind, and the authorities decide each morning whether the balloons can take off. For the flight only, if the flight is cancelled, you can choose free rescheduling or a full refund. For the 2-day trip, if the flight is cancelled by the authorities, the price of the balloon is refunded and the rest of the program goes ahead.

Our tips for your balloon flight

  • Passport: every passenger must bring their passport on the day of the flight.
  • Minimum age: 6 years for the balloon flight (children under 6 cannot fly).
  • Charged camera: the sunrise light over the West Bank is magical.
